Energy consumption and CO2 emissions: Where do Covenant cities stand? The [Covenant in Figures section->http://www.eumayors.eu/about/covenant-in-figures_en.html] of the website now includes [new indicators->http://www.covenantofmayors.eu/IMG/pdf/covenant_indicators.pdf] offering a comprehensive picture of the energy consumption patterns, CO2 emission levels and 2020 targets of signatory municipalities.
The indicators are based on the data provided by signatories in their Sustainable Energy Action Plan (SEAP) templates. Regular updates of the indicators are foreseen based on the growing number of submitted SEAPs. This will remain an evolving set of indicators and further features will be added in order to reflect the results of the progress monitoring to be performed by signatories.
Indicators will track signatories’ performance towards meeting the 2020 objective and will demonstrate how cities’ actions can improve energy efficiency, increase renewable energy and consequently reduce CO2 emissions.
The Covenant indicators were developed in collaboration with the Joint Research Centre which has conducted an extensive scientific analysis of the data included in the submitted SEAP templates. Its related scientific report can be found here.
