Green Week 2012: Covenant of Mayors Signatories invited to organise satellite events
The European Commission’s Directorate-General for the Environment invites Covenant of Mayors Signatories to organise official “satellite events” as part of the 2012 edition of the [Green Week->http://ec.europa.eu/environment/greenweek/], to be held on 22-25 May in Brussels, on the theme of water.

The event can take the form of an open-door day, a guided tour, a conference, a youth event, an art initiative or any other such awareness-raising activity addressing the theme of water use in cities. Signatories interested in holding an official “Green Week 2012 satellite event” are invited to complete the online application form by 15 March 2012, 12:00 CET.

Eligibility criteria

Dates: Green Week 2012 satellite events must take place during the months of May or June 2012 (preferably from 22 to 25 May 2012 – in parallel with the Green Week 2012 in Brussels)

Objective: Raising awareness about the vital role of water at local or regional levels (e.g. capture stations, water tanks, green roofs, sanitation facilities, innovative technologies, etc.)

Target audience: General public

Advantages

  • Publicity: Selected events will be promoted on the Green Week 2012 website (section: “Satellite events”)
  • Endorsement: Selected events will be labelled official “Green Week 2012 satellite events”. Logos, posters and other promotional materials will be provided to organisers to ensure a harmonised branding across Europe.
  • Visibility: A large panel dedicated to all Green Week 2012 satellite events will be produced and placed at the venue in Brussels.

Water management is among the fields of action that can be integrated in signatories’ Sustainable Energy Action Plans. According to the Committee of the Regions, it is also an area to which the Covenant of Mayors’ scope should be formally extended.
