National fund for environmental protection supports Polish signatory cities
In Poland, the [National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management->] supports Covenant of Mayors signatory cities through funding support for energy efficiency, renewables, Combined Heat and Power projects, training and communication activities.

Until end of 2015, financing support will be granted to projects of energy efficient street lighting; low-emission municipal transport and energy management in public buildings. Between 2015 and 2020, public procurement, low-energy houses and decentralised renewable energy installations will also be eligible.

Structural funds of the operational programme 2014-2020 will support 85% of eligible costs related to the development or update of SEAPs and low-emission plans, the creation of BEIs and promotion of the low carbon economy.

Over 800 Polish municipalities have already sent their applications to be granted funding support for the development of SEAPs or so-called plans for the low-carbon economy.

This shows how much the local level can act as a driver of the energy transition, as argued in this opinion piece from the Deputy Mayor of the Covenant city of Bielsko-Biała published on 18 June in Euractiv.
