Supporting and mainstreaming adaptation to climate change: Two publications to learn from other cities' experience
Two recent publications provide examples and case studies that focus on the implementation of climate adaptation policies.

Which climate change adaptation actions have proven successful and why? How do countries track their adaptation actions? The recent European Environment Agency (EEA) reportentitled “National monitoring, reporting and evaluation of climate change adaptation in Europe” provides an overview of monitoring, reporting and evaluation (MRE) systems at the national level in Europe. The report looks at current approaches and experiences from across Europe: drivers and purposes, governance and participation, methodology and communication channels. The different aspects are illustrated by related case studies.

The LIFE instrument is one of the main funding sources for demonstration projects that have facilitated the implementation of the EU climate adaptation policy and mainstreamed adaptation to climate change. A new “LIFE and Climate change adaptation” brochure gives an overview of the achievements of the LIFE programme to date. The publication presents the impact of LIFE on adaptation in different key sectors such as strategic planning for adaptation at national and local level, urban resilience, agriculture, forests, water, coastal areas and biodiversity. With over 130 LIFE projects from 24 Member States, the brochure showcases a wide range of solutions that can help meet the EU’s climate targets, and are a source of inspiration for making cities and towns more secure, sustainable and ready for the future.
