Covenant Supporters are defined as not-for-profit organisations (associations of local and regional authorities, networks, thematic agencies …) with the capacity to promote the Covenant of Mayors and to mobilise and support their members and/or local authorities to reach the Covenant of Mayors’ objectives.

They take action on their territories and areas of expertise (e.g. energy, environment, water, air), and at different levels of governance (e.g. European, national, and regional/local) to promote the Covenant of Mayors initiative and support the commitments of their signatories. With expert knowledge of the regulatory, legislative and financial framework under which they operate - be it at the local/regional, national or European level – Covenant Supporters are ideally placed to provide tailored advice to signatories and identify synergies with existing initiatives.

Borghi Autentici d’Italia is a network of italian little town. The project of Borghi Autentici d’Italia (authentic town of Italy) is to promote an economic development and to encourage local authorities to improve and restore small towns in order to bring out the best of the culture and traditions of the towns concerned. In this way the society has given its support to innovative proposals of providing hospitality to tourists while conserving and making the most of our national heritage and offering the best the local territory has to offer.

Fara San Martino (CH): built for the environment
Category: Other
Description: Politics and environmental protection developed by the Municipal administration and the local community have brought the small town of Fara San Martino (CH), near to the Maiella mountain, to the national fore for the protection of the historical-environmental heritage and for the promotion of a sustainable tourism. The care of Fara San Martino in favour of a urban quality that respects the environment has been carried out also with the adhesion to the Association Borghi Autentici d'Italia and pursuing the objectives established by the Association for Municipalities capable of investing in quality. Here follows a short review of Fara San Martino's benchmaks of excellence: - "Bosco sicuro" (Safe wood) flag: in the 2006/2007 six fires interested the Municipality; subsequently a plan for the mitigation of fire risk has benn implemented bringing Fara San Martino at the first place for the achievement of the "Bosco sicuro" flag. - Separate collection of rubbish: in this field the town has won two important prizes: gold medal in Abruzzo region and bronze medal at national level for the "Comuni Ricicloni" (Recycling Municiaplities) prize organizes by Legambiente. - "Bandiera Verde Agricoltura" (Green Agricolture flag): the Italian Agricolture Confederation has assigned this flag to Fara San Martino for its care and commitment in the environment protection and promotion of the territory. - On 2009, February 7th Fara San Martino has received the prize as "Better town 2008".
