International, European and National Events
In order to ensure a wide promotion of the Covenant of Mayors initiative, to get closer to local authorities and to reinforce co-operation with the important actors, programmes and initiatives, the Covenant of Mayors Office (COMO) will present the initiative in a number of international, European and national events.
COMO will inform the target audience – local authorities, Supporting Structures, potential Benchmarks of Excellence and other partners – about the objectives, benefits, practical implementation and latest developments of the initiative.

Thematic Workshops
COMO invites the mayors of the Covenant cities and their ’Covenant coordinators’ – responsible for practical implementation of the Covenant initiative in local authorities – to a series of Thematic Workshops.
Cities are invited to share their local visions and show what they are already doing to shape the energy future at city level. The topics discussed will comprise development of baseline emissions inventories and Sustainable Energy Action Plans, their implementation, financing and communication at local and European level.
Cities that are interested in committing to the Covenant objectives but are new to the field will by no means be disadvantaged! COMO will pay special attention to participating cities that have not yet signed up to the Covenant initiative and will explain in detail how to join formally and how to implement it practically. Thematic workshops will also assist Supporting Structures, Benchmarks of Excellence and other actors – such as energy agencies.
COMO will also encourage the exchange of experiences, networkingand face-to-face discussions between local authorities and invited experts, representatives of COMO (Helpdesk), Supporting Structures and Benchmarks of Excellence.

Local Energy Days
As the 20% reduction of CO2 emissions is a target that concerns the whole territory , and not just municipal buildings and vehicles but also private housing, the tertiary sector and transport, it is crucial to involve local stakeholders and citizens in the preparation and implementation of Sustainable Energy Action Plans.
Each city can increase the level of their involvement through efficient communication and awareness raising activities focused on a city energy and climate objectives.
Covenant cities are aware of this challenge and are committed to organize local Energy Days that target and involve local stakeholders, citizens and media.
The Covenant signatories will get the full support of the European Sustainable Energy Campaign which has collected a vast number of good examples in the field of the local energy day organisation and communication.
All Covenant cities interested in receiving support for the organisation of Energy Days and a European visibility for their event are welcome to contact Mr. Pierre-Loïc Nihoul ( energydays@sustenergy.org ).
