Take part in a public consultation on the EU Climate Adaptation Strategy
21 December 2017 - 11:43

The European Commission has recently launched a public consultationon its strategy on adaptation to climate change.

The EU Climate Adaptation strategy which was adopted in April 2013 aims to increase the resilience of the EU by enhancing the preparedness and capacity of all government levels to respond to the impacts of climate change. The strategy commits to delivering three objectives: promoting action by Member States, ‘climate-proofing’ action at EU level, and better-informed decision-making - through the implementation of 8 actions:

  • Encourage all Member States to adopt comprehensive adaptation strategies
  • Provide funding from the EU LIFE programme to support capacity building
  • Introduce adaptation in the Covenant of Mayors framework
  • Bridge the knowledge gap
  • Further develop Climate-ADAPT as the one-stop shop for adaptation information in Europe
  • Facilitate the climate-proofing of the EU Cohesion, Fisheries and Agricultural policies
  • Ensure more resilient infrastructure
  • Promote insurance and other financial products for resilient investment and business decisions.

Local climate adaptation and knowing how the EU can further support it are key elements of the EU's adaptation strategy. Therefore, the EU Commission warmly invites the Covenant Community to participate in the consultation and share their views.

Deadline for responding to the consultation is the 1st of March 2018.
